We believe that “All in a Day” dentistry should be more than efficient. It should also be relaxing, especially for those who suffer from dental anxiety or feel nervous during dental treatments.
Drs. Keith Laws and Laura Herfel, your compassionate dentists in Florence, KY, offer several sedation levels, including local anesthesia, to make sure you get the treatments you want and need in our dental office.
Besides sedation, we offer a warm and friendly atmosphere that helps you feel relaxed and at ease during procedures. We are always patient, and our team members work with a gentle hand.
Sedation Dentistry: Your Comfort Is Our Priority
Before beginning any treatment at Dental Center of Florence, we make sure you’re comfortable, and for invasive procedures, we always numb the treatment area thoroughly.
However, we understand that some patients require extra reassurance, which is why we offer sedation dentistry.
Our sedation options include:
- Nitrous oxide
- Oral conscious sedation
- IV sedation
Nitrous Oxide for Treatment Ease
Nitrous oxide has several benefits, including that it is safe for all ages, and there are no lingering side effects. With this sedation option, you can drive yourself home from your procedure, go on with your day, and in many cases, return to work if you’re feeling up to it.
This medication is delivered through a small nasal mask. It is a colorless and odorless gas that produces feelings of comfort and mild detachment. With nitrous oxide, you’re aware of your treatment, but it seems secondary to most patients when the nitrous is administered. You simply lay back and relax automatically.
Oral Conscious Sedation for Added Relaxation
Your dentist offers this medication in pill form. You take it approximately one hour before treatment, which means you’ll need to be transported to and from your dental visit. We also advise you not to make any serious decisions on the day of treatment—unlike nitrous oxide, the effects of oral conscious sedation linger.
With this sedation option, you may not remember your treatment at all, but you’ll still be able to follow any directions given by your dentist during your procedure.
IV Sedation or Sleep Dentistry for Maximum Comfort
IV sedation means that medication is delivered through an IV, and you sleep throughout the treatment. As with oral conscious sedation, you will need to be driven home from your appointment, and you should avoid making any important decisions on treatment day following the administration of IV sedation.
